The Institute coordinated a major five year research programme (1999-2005) into national identity and constitutional change, The Nations and Regions Research Programme. The programme was funded by the Leverhulme Trust. The Trust also funded the follow-up study National Identity, Citizenship and Social Inclusion (2006-11).
